CHANEL 2012 Cruise (12C) is a particularly elegant Karl Lagerfeld-era lesson in place. The show was held at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d’Antibes, near Cannes, rather than in Cannes itself.

Rita Hayworth and Aly Khan were among Lagerfeld’s references. Aly Khan, a prince of the Aga Khan family, married Hayworth in 1949; Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc records the couple meeting there that year before the marriage.
That makes the glamour unusually site-specific. The collection is not simply “South of France” styling—it draws on a place already associated with cinema, society and formal leisure.
Why the Pearls Do Not Overwhelm the Tailoring
CHANEL placed 90 Haute Joaillerie pieces across the runway, with real diamonds and pearls. Karolina Kurkova’s Comète diamond piece curves around the upper arm, yet the strongest impression remains the narrow line of the clothes.
This is where 12C feels most accomplished: the jewellery increases the luxury while the cut prevents the styling from becoming heavy.
Decoration is abundant; silhouette is restrained.
That balance makes the jackets and dresses look surprisingly modern more than a decade later.
The Tale of a Fairy｜A Karl Lagerfeld Film Made for 12C
Lagerfeld conceived, wrote and directed The Tale of a Fairy, screened at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc for the collection. Anna Mouglalis, Amanda Harlech, Kristen McMenamy and Freja Beha Erichsen appear.
The film is useful because it removes the runway rhythm. Clothes are seen sitting and moving inside a narrative, which reveals how much of 12C depends on proportion rather than spectacle alone.
From Slim Jackets to Evening Dresses｜The Range Inside 12C
Swimwear, kick-pleat skirts, palazzo trousers, midi dresses and beaded white evening looks all appear. The Cruise label gives Lagerfeld room to move between daytime ease and dressed-up polish without forcing one uniform mood.
