Inside CHANEL 15C: Dubai Tweed, Embroidery & Gisele’s Record Earnings | UK

シャネル15Cはなぜ今も新鮮?刺繍ジャケットの秘密とジゼルの驚きの日給【CHANEL 2015クルーズ】

Presented in Dubai on 13 May 2014, CHANEL Cruise 2014/15—15C—brought ornate embroidery and jewellery into dialogue with relaxed tailoring and light, layered clothes.

Its lasting appeal lies in proportion. The surfaces are sumptuous, yet long tunics, easy trousers and fluid dresses stop the collection from feeling overworked.

CHANEL 15C tweed, embroidery and jewellery in close detail

Vogue Runway noted the accumulation of beads, geometric relief, textured tweed and patchwork. Latticework, crescents, gilded surfaces and sequins recalling Dubai’s skyline extended the idea from clothes to accessories.

Sand and gold were lifted by blue, pink and green. The colour was exuberant, but roomy jackets and coats, dresses over trousers and long lines gave the decoration a sense of ease.

The official detail film is the clearest place to study the embroidery, fabric surfaces, bags and shoes.

Ornament is balanced by movement.

The clothes do not depend on a single decorative motif. Their impact comes from the relationship between worked surfaces, loose proportions and jewellery worn in layers.

Why Dubai mattered to CHANEL Cruise 2014/15

The runway was staged on The Island, reached by boat from Dubai. Geometric screens covered the temporary venue, incorporating the double C into the lattice pattern.

Karl Lagerfeld did not present a literal period fantasy. He combined a modern city, romantic Oriental references, Parisian codes and costume jewellery to create a deliberately hybrid world.

CHANEL’s full-show film reveals how the silhouettes, setting and accessories worked together in motion.

Specialist CHANEL workmanship inside a Cruise collection

15C belongs to Cruise and should not be labelled a Métiers d’Art collection. Even so, its beading, sequins and embroidery reveal the skill of specialist ateliers associated with the house.

The changing glint of beadwork and the relief of embroidery cannot be replicated by flat print. The effect becomes clearer as light moves across tweed and lighter cloth.

The backstage film offers a quieter counterpoint: last adjustments and the venue before the audience sees the runway.

Gisele Bündchen, CHANEL N°5 and an extraordinary 2014 figure

During the same year, Gisele Bündchen fronted CHANEL N°5 and appeared in Les Beiges advertising. Baz Luhrmann’s N°5 film moved between sport, the sea and evening glamour.

Eight consecutive years as the highest-paid model.

Forbes estimated earnings of $47 million for the 12 months from June 2013. A simple 365-day calculation produces a daily figure of about $128,000.

Forbes later put her estimated cumulative earnings from 2001 to 2015 at $386 million before management fees. This was not a verified estimate of net worth.

A restrained way to wear the CHANEL 15C idea now

An embroidered jacket can sit over plain trousers; a vivid dress can be balanced with small jewellery; gold or sand can be limited to one element. The collection feels most modern when one detail leads.

That restraint keeps the atelier work visible while retaining the lightness of Cruise.
