It is difficult to look through these eight images without smiling. Karl Lagerfeld named CHANEL 2004 Cruise (04C) “Candy Land”, a light and joyful meeting of sorbet colour and ice-cream prints.
Candy-floss pink, lemon yellow and pistachio green appear alongside the print. Karl Lagerfeld’s ingenious sense of play makes every look exciting, while the clear CHANEL silhouette keeps the sweetness beautifully grown-up.
The idea of placing ice-cream prints on CHANEL clothing is delightful in itself, yet the result never feels childish. The motif moves across tops, skirts, halter-neck dresses, bags and beach sarongs, while jackets and suits retain the precise outline associated with CHANEL.
That balance allows the collection to enjoy sweet colours without losing elegance. Karl Lagerfeld brings charm and polish into the same look, making the playful idea feel entirely wearable for an adult wardrobe.

A mint tweed jacket or pale pink cardigan can softly brighten the area around the face and make the expression appear gentler. On a day when you feel a little tired, these are the happy kinds of colours that can make you feel refreshed—as if you looked a few years younger.
If pastel feels too sweet, there is no need to wear it from head to toe. As the 04C images show, white trousers or blue denim make the colour feel immediately more relaxed. One jacket or cardigan near the face is an easy place to begin.
The pale cardigan worn with white trousers is a useful reminder that soft colour can look polished without becoming overly formal.
The playfulness continues into 1920s-inspired cloche hats, summery high-heeled sandals, translucent pink sunglasses and cotton sun hats. Star-shaped earrings, jewelled belts and heart-shaped CC brooches add one delightful detail after another.
With a print, choosing one colour from the motif for an accessory helps the outfit feel connected. Another easy option is to keep the clothing white or denim and let just one 04C-style colour or accessory take the lead.
The ice-cream print also has a lovely later chapter. In 2025, Vogue reported that Becca Bloom chose a vintage CHANEL dress from the Karl Lagerfeld era featuring the motif for her rehearsal dinner.
Ice cream was both a favourite treat and part of the couple’s first-date story. More than twenty years after the collection appeared, the dress found new meaning through her own story—a pleasure that is especially fitting for vintage CHANEL.
