CHANEL 20A in the Virginie Viard Era|Tweed Tailoring and Gripoix【2020 FW】 | UK

シャネル CHANEL 20A|ヴィルジニー・ヴィアール期が描いた乗馬の自由【2020秋冬】

CHANEL 2020 Fall-Winter 20A set equestrian romanticism against supple tweed tailoring, allowing jackets, coats and suits to move rather than stand rigidly.

Black and white formed the ground; pale green, house pink and saturated jewellery colour supplied the accents.

The Grand Palais presentation felt unusually informal as models crossed in twos and threes, talking as they walked.

CHANEL 20A Equestrian Tailoring|Freedom at the Grand Palais

Shown in Paris on 3 March 2020, the ready-to-wear collection began with Virginie Viard’s declaration, “Freedom!” Riding became a language of wind, stride and release rather than costume.

A photograph of Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Piaggi around 1980—dressed in boots, jodhpurs and cravats—gave the silhouettes their romantic charge. Romantica, Gabrielle Chanel’s racehorse, Les Biches and Pegasus lace broadened the story.

CHANEL 20A Tweed Jackets and Coats|Fastenings that Release the Line

Throughout the 72 looks, snaps opened jodhpurs at the outer leg and allowed the hem to break over boots. Soft-shouldered jackets and coat dresses often used pared-back fastenings.

Zips in midi skirts and capacious coats exposed matching tweed shorts or bustiers. Tonal patchwork, scalloped edging and feathered sleeves varied the texture within the disciplined palette.

It was classic CHANEL construction loosened just enough to follow the body.

CHANEL 20A Gripoix Jewellery|Cabochon Colour and Cross Motifs

Pearl-bordered crosses, green and pink cabochons, belts and dark pendants brought concentrated colour to the monochrome tailoring.

Crosses repeated across jewellery, print and embroidery, linking the whole ensemble with a continuous decorative beat.

CHANEL 20A Catwalk|A Cast Moving in Company

Models appeared in pairs and trios, chatting and smiling rather than maintaining a severe procession. The catwalk itself carried the collection’s idea of freedom.

Shared riding boots drew dresses, shorts, suits and coats into one story, while the individual combinations remained clear.

CHANEL 20A Hair and Makeup|Soft Shape, Polished Light

Hair was softly raised and half tied, introducing air around the face against black cravats and riding boots.

A luminous complexion, fresh cheek colour and glossy lips supplied polish without heaviness.
