CHANEL 25C in Marseille: Why the Cruise Collection Looks Sporty | US

CHANEL presented its Cruise 2024/25 collection, or 25C, in Marseille on May 2, 2024. From the rooftop of Le Corbusier’s Cité Radieuse, Virginie Viard connected classic tweed jackets with hoodies, flat shoes, lace and scuba-inspired details.

For a modern wardrobe, the key idea is contrast: polished tailoring keeps its structure, while sportswear changes how formal the clothes feel.

Why CHANEL 25C looks sportier than a classic Cruise wardrobe

The opening green tweed jacket was worn over a gray hooded sweatshirt. Elsewhere, ballet flats and diving-inspired shoes replaced the visual weight of heels. These choices did not remove the tailored CHANEL line; they made it feel easier and more mobile.

A hoodie beside tweed changes the entire balance of a jacket. The craftsmanship remains visible, but the outfit reads as something made for movement rather than ceremony alone.

The rooftop wind and the models’ pace make the lighter styling especially clear.

Cité Radieuse gives CHANEL 25C its color and geometry

Le Corbusier designed the Unité d’Habitation from 1945 to 1952. Its rooftop included spaces for exercise and performance; today MAMO uses the site for contemporary art. Pastels, concrete gray and the building’s grid-like rhythm reappear across the collection.

Sea references move through knitwear, lace dresses and jewelry

A white hooded scuba suit with a black bow, openwork knits, wave-like diagonal lines and gold necklaces resembling fishing nets made the Mediterranean present without turning every look into a costume.

Patchwork lace dresses and sea-creature ruffles brought delicacy into the same frame as practical footwear. That proximity between dress and sport is one reason 25C still looks youthful.

Marseille gave CHANEL 25C more than a backdrop. It supplied an active rhythm in which tweed, sweatshirts, lace and marine references could share the same wardrobe.
