CHANEL’s Real Iceberg and Faux-Fur Twist: Fall 2010 Runway | US

シャネルが選んだのは“フェイク”だった?氷山ショーと10Aファンタジーファーの秘密【CHANEL 2010秋冬】

CHANEL Fall 2010 made faux fur the headline—not the substitute. In a Grand Palais set built around real ice and shallow blue water, Karl Lagerfeld treated “fantasy fur” as a design material with its own volume, shine and humor.

For anyone who loves CHANEL jackets, the useful part is seeing how an extreme runway idea became a wearable study in texture.

From a real iceberg to a new kind of CHANEL jacket

Models entered in hooded, fur-covered looks and shaggy boots, then moved into tweed suits, leather jackets and capes. The icy runway was spectacular, but it also made every fringe, crystal pin and long-pile surface catch the light.

Before the runway begins, Peter Philips’ makeup film brings the collection’s bold eye look into close focus.

“Fantasy fur” changed the conversation from imitation to design

Lagerfeld explained that synthetic fur technology had advanced dramatically. By renaming it “fantasy fur,” he placed the emphasis on what the material could invent: fur woven into tweed, deep trim below a leather bodice, rounded capes and even full trousers.

Why 10A still feels relevant: it keeps the recognizable CHANEL line, then changes the surface. The result is bold without losing the structure that makes the jacket easy to style.

These archive examples are not evidence for the whole historical collection; they are a close view of how its leather-and-fur language appeared in individual jackets.

Ice accessories, intricate knitwear, and a witty finish

A quilted CC clutch looked as though it had been frozen into a block of ice. Elsewhere, a glacier-blue Angora sweater dress and a cardigan coat knitted to suggest down-filled volume showed that this was also a knitwear collection.

The campaign film removes the melting runway and makes the contrast between pile, leather and tailoring easier to study.

With a high-volume fantasy-fur jacket, streamlined pants or a simple dress keep the outline clear. A jacket trimmed only at the cuffs or hem is quieter and can slip into the same rotation as a classic CHANEL tweed piece.
