When the item is not shipped directly to the person who will wear it

For CHANEL clothing, we recommend that the person who will actually wear the item receives it directly and checks it against the photos, condition notes, and measurements on the product page.

However, there are cases where we cannot confirm the details with the actual wearer in the usual way before shipping from Japan. The main cases are below.

① A family member, friend, representative, or another person receives the item instead of the actual wearer

② A reseller or boutique receives the item first, then gives or ships it to their own customer

③ At the request of a reseller or boutique, TC JAPAN ships the item directly to that reseller’s customer

In each case, there is a limit to what we can confirm.

After the item has been delivered, we cannot confirm how it was opened, stored, moved, repacked, handed to another person, or how a reseller explained the item to their customer.

For this reason, we can accept shipment through a third party, representative, reseller, or boutique only if you understand the points below.



Real example 1: When a family member received the item in Japan

Once, a customer overseas asked us to ship an order to a hotel in Japan because her son would be staying there.

We shipped the items to the hotel in Japan as requested, and the order was received safely.

After that, her son took the items out of the box and placed five pieces of clothing together in his suitcase.

Unfortunately, his own toiletry items became tangled with a delicate knit item inside the suitcase, and the knit developed a snag. The customer then contacted us asking about a return.

In this case, the item had been delivered safely to the requested address. The issue happened afterward, during unpacking, moving, and storage inside the suitcase.

Thankfully, we later heard that the knit was repaired beautifully, which was a relief for us as well.

Even if the representative does not open the box and simply forwards it to the buyer, our responsibility is only up to the first delivery address.

We cannot confirm whether the box was opened, or how the item was stored or moved after delivery. For that reason, the representative must check the item condition themselves when they receive it. If there is any issue, please contact us within the stated time limit. Once the representative has sent the item on to the buyer, we cannot be responsible for anything that happens afterward.



Real example 2: When a reseller received the item first

We have also had a similar situation with a reseller.

After receiving the item, the reseller contacted us and said that it was a beautiful piece and that they would now send it to their own customer.

The item had impressive buttons, and the reseller even sent us a video showing the buttons moving and sparkling beautifully.

So, at the time the reseller received the item, we could confirm that the buttons were attached and that there was no issue with the item.

Later, after the item had been passed on to the reseller’s customer, we were told, “The button was there when it arrived to me, but I do not know where it came off or went missing. Could you send me an extra button?”

However, CHANEL buttons cannot easily be sourced in the exact same design, and we were not able to provide a replacement.

Thankfully, in the end, the reseller’s customer was able to obtain a button through a CHANEL boutique, and the issue was resolved.

As this example shows, after TC JAPAN has delivered the item safely to the requested address, we cannot confirm what happens before it is passed on to another customer.

When a reseller receives an item, the reseller must check the condition immediately. If there is any issue, please contact us within the stated time limit while the item is still in the reseller’s possession. Once the item has been passed on to another customer, we cannot be responsible for anything that happens afterward.



Real example 3: When the item was shipped directly to a reseller’s customer

Sometimes a reseller asks us to ship an item directly to their own customer.

In that case, from TC JAPAN’s side, the buyer is the reseller. We may not have any direct communication with the person who will actually wear the item.

There was a case where a reseller showed only the images to their customer and sold the item without fully explaining the detailed measurements and condition notes on our product page.

The product page clearly stated that there was a snag on the underside of the cuff.

However, it seems that this information was not properly passed on to the customer. After the item arrived, the customer wanted to return it, saying that the size did not fit and that they had not been told about the condition.

In this case, TC JAPAN had not directly confirmed the size, measurements, or condition notes with the reseller’s customer.

For international shipments, we may also have not directly confirmed whether the customer can provide the ID required for delivery, or whether they understand customs duties and import procedures.

So, even if the reseller’s customer asks for a return after delivery, we cannot confirm what the reseller explained in advance, whether the condition notes were shown, or whether the measurements were checked.

Even when TC JAPAN ships directly to a reseller’s customer, we cannot accept a return request from that customer.

The reseller must explain the product page condition notes, measurements, important details, and any international shipping requirements to their own customer before purchase. We cannot confirm what was explained between the reseller and their customer.



Item condition when a third party or reseller is involved

Before shipping, TC JAPAN carefully checks each item with more than one staff member to make sure it matches the photos, condition notes, and measurements on the product page.

In our regular transactions, many customers are satisfied with their purchases, and we are grateful that more than 90% of our customers are repeat customers.

That is why, when a third party or reseller is involved, we also believe it is very important that the item condition, measurements, and important notes are passed on correctly.

However, when a third party, representative, reseller, or boutique is involved, we cannot accept claims or return requests for reasons such as the following.

  • Damage
  • Missing parts
  • Missing accessories or components
  • The item condition seems different from the product page description
  • An issue is noticed after the representative has passed the item on to the buyer
  • An issue is noticed after a reseller or boutique has passed the item on to another customer
  • The item condition changes after delivery due to moving or storage
  • The reseller’s customer did not fully check the measurements or condition notes
  • The reseller’s customer requests a return because of size mismatch or missed condition details


Conditions for shipment

We can accept shipment through a third party, representative, reseller, or boutique only if all of the above is understood and accepted.
