CHANEL Spring-Summer 2016, known as 16S, brought an airport to the Grand Palais and sent blue, pink and white tweed jackets, suits and dresses through its imaginary terminal.
Bright colour close to the face can make familiar black feel suddenly heavy. These are shades that prompt the playful question: “Five years younger?”
For UK visitors, the selection below opens directly in the UK storefront.
A light grey ribbon suit, checked tailoring, striped tweed and two blue-toned jackets bring the collection’s structure into focus.

On 6 October 2015, an airport terminal appeared inside Paris’s Grand Palais: CHANEL Airlines. Clothes made for the idea of travel moved past check-in desks and departure boards.
Begin with CHANEL’s official runway film. It shows the silhouettes, colour combinations and bags of the Spring-Summer 2016 collection in motion.

In the Ginza window, different shades of blue caught the eye first. Navy and black sharpened the outline of the jackets and suits, while white brought light close to the face.
Polished, yet light enough for spring and summer. The appeal lies in the way pattern and texture keep blue from feeling like a single flat colour.
Graphic lines of red, blue and white gave jackets and dresses a clear silhouette, even from a distance. Elsewhere, white-based looks softened the mood.
Bold colour and airy ease, held within the same collection.
CHANEL’s short collection film reveals something still photographs cannot: the expression of the clothes as they move.

For her airport look, Korean actress Han Ye-seul paired a tweed jacket with a white top, blue denim and a brown shoulder bag.
A useful way to bring a vivid jacket into everyday life: keep the lower half simple. The balance still feels current.

Before the runway began, the backstage film captured hair and makeup, fittings and details of the airport set. Another way to enjoy the 16S colour story and tweed textures.
