CHANEL 2005 05PF “Paris–Tokyo” is especially compelling when viewed through construction and finish: a refined Parisian silhouette with Tokyo’s sharper, more playful energy underneath.
The collection belongs to the 2005 Pre-Fall season and was shown in Ginza in December 2004, at a key moment in the early history of CHANEL Métiers d’Art.
The first Métiers d’Art collection was presented in Paris in 2002. Paris–Tokyo was the next landmark: the first Métiers d’Art fashion show staged abroad, held at the new Ginza flagship.
05PF / Paris–Tokyo
2002 = first Métiers d’Art collection. 2004 Paris–Tokyo = first Métiers d’Art fashion show outside France.
Five specialist maisons formed the core at the time—Lesage, Massaro, Maison Michel, Lemarié and Desrues. Their work covered embroidery and tweed, footwear, millinery, feathers and flowers, buttons and metalwork.
What makes 05PF particularly elegant is the contrast between restraint and surprise. Ribbon may become part of a skirt or dress structure; richly worked surfaces sit beside straightforward knitwear; quilted leather appears in a way that feels graphic rather than heavy.
This is a collection to inspect rather than simply glance at. The closer the garment, the more the workmanship becomes visible, yet the overall impression remains controlled and wearable.
