▶︎Why the 2013 pre-fall Métiers d'Art cashmere knit is so excellent

When it comes to knitwear and reliable suppliers, "Barrie" comes to mind. It's a cashmere specialty company, and some of you might have heard the name before.

 

Barrie is a long-established company with a proud history, founded over 140 years ago (! 😳). Initially, they produced sweaters for the British army during the two World Wars, but in the 1950s and 1960s, they became known as a favorite supplier for the biggest haute couture brands.

And, the Chanel Métiers d'Art Paris - Edinburgh collection, which is very popular in our store. It was a collection held in 2012 at Linlithgow Palace, west of Edinburgh, the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots.

In fact, this 12PF collection was also an homage to Barrie Knitwear, which was acquired by Chanel/CHANEL in the same year.

It's truly a testament to Chanel's status as a top brand to acquire such a historic and renowned knitwear specialist.

 

 

▶︎Chanel's cashmere knit cardigans sell out instantly at boutiques every year

 

Knits are warm and comfortable,
but the problem is that after years of wear,
they develop pilling and friction.

・・・However!!

Chanel knits,
unlike ordinary knits,
do not lose their shape even after many years.

This is truly important!

 

Pilling can be removed with a defuzzer,
making the knit look new again.
However, this "loss of shape" is truly problematic...
frankly, there's nothing that can be done about it.

It makes you look bad,
gives a sloppy impression,
and makes the wearer feel uncomfortable.

 

With typical brands,
the vertical seam where the front and back panels are joined,
i.e., the side seams, distort over the years.

The seams of the sleeves also distort.

However,
why do Chanel knits
(mostly) retain their shape forever?
(The "mostly" is because
there are actually some Chanel knits that do lose their shape.
