・About the Price of CHANEL Haute Couture

Haute couture refers to exceptional pieces that are created only after an order is placed,
tailored exclusively for a single client as a fully bespoke work.

CHANEL haute couture jackets are far more expensive than standard CHANEL ready-to-wear pieces.
Prices typically start from around JPY 3,000,000 per piece.

Depending on the design, materials, and amount of embroidery,
some creations reach USD 40,000 to 100,000,
approximately JPY 4,000,000 to 10,000,000.

In particular, dresses adorned with elaborate lace and intricate bead embroidery
can exceed these figures.

Because each piece is crafted using the finest materials and
countless hours of meticulous handwork by highly skilled artisans,
there are even CHANEL boutique staff members
who have never seen an actual haute couture piece in person.

・Who Are Haute Couture Clients?

Only a very limited number of people worldwide are able to order haute couture.

They include royalty, world-renowned actresses,
first ladies of various countries,
and members of the global elite such as celebrities, VIPs, and wealthy families.

While the exact number of clients has never been disclosed,
it is said that only a few hundred people worldwide have access to haute couture.

In the past, iconic relationships existed such as
Valentino with Jacqueline Onassis,
Givenchy with Audrey Hepburn,
and Yves Saint Laurent with Catherine Deneuve.

However, haute couture requires enormous time, labor, and cost,
and for many fashion houses it became an unprofitable business.
As a result, prêt-à-porter, or luxury ready-to-wear, gradually became the mainstream.

Even so, CHANEL continues to maintain haute couture today.
The reason it remains profitable lies in
the overwhelming beauty and extraordinary level of craftsmanship found in each creation.

・The Haute Couture Creation Process

Haute couture pieces admired by women around the world
are created in CHANEL’s haute couture atelier in Paris.

VIP clients first visit the Paris flagship boutique.
From there, the process is overseen by the late Karl Lagerfeld
and supported by a team of highly skilled tailors.

From fabric selection to fine design adjustments and final sewing,
everything is carried out consistently within the atelier.

The entire process is 100% handmade.
Inside the atelier, life-size mannequins bearing each client’s name are prepared,
reflecting the extraordinary level of personalization.

Embroidery, lace, and even the weaving of tweed are all completed by hand.
In some cases, designers personally draw print motifs,
which are then transferred onto fabric.

The garment undergoes two to three fittings before final sewing begins.
Each piece is completed stitch by stitch by hand,
with uncompromising precision and care.

・How to Identify Genuine Haute Couture

Because haute couture pieces rarely appear on the market,
many people are unfamiliar with their defining characteristics.

For reference, here are some typical features found in authentic haute couture.

【Haute Couture Neck Tag】
・Horizontal rectangular shape.
・All four corners are folded.
・Tag color is black or white.
・A serial number may be printed on the back.
In rare cases, no number is present.

【Lining and Quality Labels】
No quality label is attached along the side of the lining,
as each piece is made to order for an individual client.

Haute couture transcends the concept of clothing
and exists as a true work of art.

Simply knowing these details can deepen your appreciation
and understanding of CHANEL creations.

We hope this information will be helpful for future reference.
