Before buying, the shop confirmed that it had no flattening, looked very clean and had been worn only a few times.
When the coat arrived, however, there was some pilling, slight flattening in the tweed and light friction on the lining. It was not heavily damaged, but after years of handling CHANEL clothing, we would not have described it as “like new”.
Check the tweed, lining and high-wear areas of CHANEL jackets and coats
Many CHANEL garments are strongly constructed and can still look beautiful after considerable wear. That is why we separate the areas that reveal use instead of judging only the overall impression.

Check fuzzing, pilling, disturbed threads, lost spring or dimension and distortion around the shoulders.
Lining
Even when the outside looks clean, the underarm or back lining may show friction and wear.

These areas often reveal use through rubbing, changes under the arms and the way the shoulders sit.
“Beautiful” and “close to new” are not necessarily the same.
