CHANEL Handbags Today: Classic Flap Prices, CHANEL 25 and Care|UK

シャネルバッグの何が変わった?新作CHANEL 25と価格高騰の今

Updated 16 July 2026

The Classic Flap price story is dramatic, but it is only one part of what is happening to CHANEL handbags.

Alongside the familiar structured flap, the CHANEL 25 introduces a softer hobo shape. Looking at both designs together makes the House's direction easier to understand: established details remain, while the way the bag sits on the body becomes more relaxed.

What the Classic Flap price rise really tells us

Reuters, referring to UBS research, reported that the price of a classic quilted CHANEL flap bag more than tripled between 2015 and 2024.

That explains the renewed interest in earlier bags, but it does not turn every vintage example into an investment of equal value.

A black flap may vary substantially in price according to its exact model, dimensions, leather, hardware, year, shape, corners, lining, restoration and accessories. Advertised prices can also sit far above the amounts at which comparable bags actually sell.

A sensible GBP comparison

Compare like with like: the same model, near-identical dimensions and a similar level of wear. Otherwise the figures may look comparable while the bags are not.

The practical idea behind the CHANEL 2.55

Gabrielle Chanel created the 2.55 in 1955. Its shoulder chain allowed the wearer to keep her hands free—an ordinary convenience now, but a defining practical idea at the time.

The quilted body, chain and flap became recognisable parts of the House's handbag language. They are why a newer CHANEL design can change shape without appearing disconnected from its predecessors.

Why the CHANEL 25 looks different without losing its identity

The CHANEL 25 applies quilted leather, a leather-interlaced chain, two front pockets and the double C to a softer hobo silhouette.

Where a Classic Flap looks deliberately structured, the CHANEL 25 is designed to settle more naturally against the shoulder. The current range includes Mini, Small, Medium and Large sizes.

The campaign features Margot Robbie and Kylie Minogue. Michel Gondry directs Minogue again 25 years after Come Into My World, giving the campaign a playful connection to the name.

The bag is clearly central to CHANEL's current presentation. Whether it will acquire the multi-decade status of the Classic Flap remains unknown.

Caring for lambskin and preventing colour transfer

CHANEL advises owners not to overfill a handbag and to avoid prolonged exposure to light and humidity. Light and dark colours should not remain in contact for extended periods because colour may transfer to leather or clothing.

For storage, chains and straps should be wrapped in tissue paper and the handbag kept upright in its pouch. If it becomes wet, use an absorbent, non-pilling cloth rather than a general leather product that may alter the finish.

Lambskin is minimally treated to retain its soft texture. Its beauty therefore comes with a greater need to inspect friction, surface marks and edge wear.

How to compare vintage and pre-owned CHANEL handbags

  • Use the actual dimensions: Mini, Maxi and Jumbo are not a substitute for width, height, depth and chain drop.
  • Study the less glamorous photographs: the base, corners, flap underside and lining often reveal more than the front view.
  • Confirm the material: lambskin and grained calfskin should not be judged by the same expectations.
  • Ask about refinishing: colour restoration may affect the original texture and future maintenance.
  • Read the description and terms together: both matter if the delivered piece differs materially from the listing.

New handbag headlines are useful context. A good purchase still depends on whether the individual piece suits your wardrobe, whether its condition is accurately shown and whether its GBP price is reasonable for that condition.
