CHANEL 10A Revisited: Ice, Fantasy Fur and Winter Tweed | INTL

シャネルが選んだのは“フェイク”だった?氷山ショーと10Aファンタジーファーの秘密【CHANEL 2010秋冬】

CHANEL 10A is remembered for an iceberg, but collected for its surfaces. Beneath the Grand Palais spectacle, Fall/Winter 2010–11 was a study in how fantasy fur could alter tweed, leather, knitwear and the familiar CHANEL jacket.

The collection moves between humour and exacting craft—an ice-like clutch on one side, crystal embroidery and complex knitted structures on the other.

The frozen setting established scale and movement

Before the runway, Peter Philips’ makeup film isolates the collection’s bold eye treatment in close-up.

The complete show then restores the full scale of the iceberg, water and moving silhouettes.

Huge ice blocks melted into a shallow blue pool while models walked in shaggy boots with transparent sole covers and ice-block heels. Hooded fur looks opened the show, followed by tweed, leather, capes and suits.

Fantasy fur changed the surface of CHANEL tailoring

Karl Lagerfeld said synthetic fur had advanced enormously and used “fantasy fur” as a more elegant name. The material was woven into tweed, placed against leather and shaped into voluminous winter pieces rather than treated as a hidden substitute.

Stalactite-like fringe and crystal pins caught the cold light, while the underlying tailoring kept the looks recognisably CHANEL.

For an archive wardrobe: 10A offers both extremes. Some pieces make fantasy fur the entire silhouette; others confine it to a cuff or hem and preserve a quieter jacket line.

These individual jackets show the 10A material vocabulary at close range without standing in for the entire historical collection.

Ice humour outside, knitwear intelligence within

A quilted CC clutch appeared frozen into a block of ice. More subtly, glacier-blue knitwear, a cardigan coat that suggested padded volume and a finale dress knitted from silk-tulle ribbon to resemble bouclé tweed extended the Arctic idea through technique.

The campaign film offers a final, quieter comparison of texture and proportion after the runway spectacle.

For styling across climates, proportion matters more than recreating the runway. A textured jacket works with simple trousers, denim or a clean dress; restrained fur trim can function almost like the edge of a classic tweed jacket.
