A CHANEL button is small enough to miss and beautiful enough to change the whole garment.
Across decades and collections, CC emblems, lions, camellias, pearls, coloured glass and crystal have turned functional details into portable miniature ornaments.
Look closer: the button has its own story
TC JAPAN’s Pinterest collection keeps the details large and clear—from cool silver on black tweed to warm gold on violet and crystal glints on pale cloth.
Close-up photographs selected so the buttons remain easy to see.
A tiny motif can set the tone for an entire look
A golden button can give dark tweed energy; a translucent one can lend a dress a softer rhythm. The detail is most compelling when it belongs completely to the textile and trim around it.
Desrues and the evolving craft of CHANEL buttons
Paris-based Desrues dates to 1929. In the 1960s, Georges Desrues created an early button collection for Gabrielle Chanel’s suits. The workshop joined CHANEL in 1985, becoming a foundation of the house’s later Métiers d’art network.
The work crosses hand-made prototypes, digital design, machining, casting, plating, glass techniques and assembly. It is a living craft: traditional judgement supported by tools that continue to evolve.
1964: the interlocking CC reaches the button
A Metropolitan Museum of Art catalogue entry notes 1964 as the first appearance of the interlocking CC on a CHANEL suit button—an emblem that feels timeless, but had its own beginning.
The jewel-like glow of coloured glass
Rich glass colour can transform tweed, but a visual resemblance is not enough to identify every button as Gripoix. We separate appreciation of the look from claims about its maker.
The 2008A Little Black Jacket: a small detail worth checking
TC JAPAN has found fine, hard-to-see cracks on some CC buttons from 2008 Autumn/Winter Little Black Jackets. With continued use, a crack can travel and may eventually lead to a broken button.

Close inspection under magnification
We vary the angle of light and use a loupe on the face, rim and CC detail of every button. That is often where a nearly invisible crack finally becomes clear.
Condition confidence begins with the smallest details
Authenticity is essential, yet condition determines how confidently a garment can be enjoyed. We inspect each button, the outer fabric, trim, shoulder shape and lining. More than sixteen years specialising in CHANEL clothing informs every decision.
The work is quiet and painstaking, but confidence in a vintage garment often begins with exactly this kind of small detail.
