How CHANEL uses white to define light and texture

The official Inside CHANEL film “The Colors” places white within a palette of black, beige, gold and red. White sharpens contrast, but it also functions as a surface on which tweed, pearls and metallic details can register light.

The dark 11A runway gave white an architectural role

Fall-Winter 2011 used mist, a dark forest and black volcanic ground. A luminous white cube with the CC monogram formed the entrance, while rounded shoulders, masculine proportions and layered jackets stayed within shadowed colours. White reveals the materials of CHANEL 12S

Spring-Summer 2012 turned the Grand Palais into an underwater landscape of giant white coral, shells and seahorses. Pale pink, ice blue, seafoam, pearls and iridescence gave the white setting a sense of reflected water.

Making pale CHANEL pieces part of a regular wardrobe

A friend who regularly wore white noticed that visible marks made her more attentive when eating, carrying drinks or placing a bag. The garment created a practical cue; the colour itself was not presented as a way to change behaviour.

Pale jackets become easier to understand when worn with denim or simple separates rather than stored only for special occasions. Regular use shows which routines and environments call for greater care.

Care for white and ivory tweed in different climates

Keep perfume, hairspray and cosmetics away from the fabric. Avoid prolonged strong light and damp storage; the balance between ventilation and humidity control will vary with climate.
